European Company Lawyers Association (ECLA) plans to publish the ECLA Yearbook 2019 in November, a biennial publication that gives an exhaustive overview of the status of company lawyers across Europe. The Yearbook will consist of three main chapters:

– An overview of the status of legal privilege and of the in-house profession across Europe based on an insight for each country;

– A dedicated chapter in which experts will have the opportunity to elaborate on the independence of company lawyers, including the issues and controversies surrounding the recognition of Legal Professional Privilege – or lack thereof – in their respective countries, including recent developments;

– An in-depth look into ECLA’s national member associations (their history, number of member, current activities and/or achievements…). This chapter will be drafted by our Legal Project Manager Marion Lupin on the basis of the information provided by the national representatives in the course of the ECLA survey, and will be submitted for review and approval to every association prior to publication;

The ECLA Yearbook is designed to be the handbook for the company lawyer profession in Europe, used for references and for introducing the profession to relevant stakeholders and political actors. As such, the Yearbook is intended to be as pan-European and comprehensive as possible, and we welcome any suggestions regarding potential contributors coming from the national associations. If you would like to suggest someone, including yourself, interested having their article published the Yearbook, please get in touch with Liudas at liudas.basiulis@bitasociacija.lt The goal is to have at least one contribution from each of ECLA’s member countries, in order to obtain a truly inclusive overview of the status of legal professional privilege in our Continent. The length of the articles and content contributions should be of 4, 8 or 12 pages, which would translate into – approximatively – 8.000, 21.000 or 32.000 characters including spaces, although flexibility is possible. We plan on publishing the ECLA Yearbook by the end of November 2019. Therefore, the deadline for submitting the articles to us, is 30 September 2019.
